New guest beer - Red Ryeding
Our new guest beer is out now! Red Ryeding is a 5.1% ale, red in colour (unsurprisingly) and brewed with the addition of malted rye as well as the usual malted barley.
Rye gives a beer a much richer flavour at the cereal end of things. Kind of a biscuit intensity, and in Red Ryeding that is combined with some crystal malt (which is malt that is caramelised during the sprouting process) for a toffee-like flavour and a small amount of black malt for a little intense roastiness.
For hops we've gone with single varietal and used Idaho-7 hops. These give a zesty, tangerine like flavour which marries nicely with the malt. We've gone quite heavy on the hopping rates but not used any for dry hopping this time as I didn't want to overwhelm the rye flavour.
